Ella's Angels

Getting an Enhanced DBS using Ella's Angels?

To register with Ella's Angels, or to get any job in childcare, you will need an Enhanced DBS Certificate.

Ella's Angels will also require you to be on the Update Service.

You do not have to Register as a Nanny at Ella's Angels to use our DBS service.

Registering for the update service is very cheap (£13 per annum) and easy to do at the time you apply for your Certificate. If you have an Enhanced DBS Certificate already but are not on the Update Service, you can still apply for this service as long as your original Certificate is no older than 28 days. If it is older than 28 days you have no option other than to apply for a new Enhanced DBS Certificate and then apply for the Update Service.

Why use our Service?

  • Applicants (job candidates) cannot do an enhanced criminal record check on themselves.
  • Our Service is online and you can use it yourself in your own time or do it alongside one of our Managers at your interview
  • Your Enhanced DBS Certificate is typically available very quickly; usually after around five days - sometimes as quickly as 24 hours.
  • The system delivers a 100% error free process. You cannot submit a faulty claim, so you do not waste your time.

Most other providers use a paper system that is not error free and usually takes 4-6 weeks.

Why do I need an Enhanced DBS?

Since March 2002, the Criminal Records Bureau (now known as the Disclosure and Barring Service), has enabled employers to check the criminal records of employees and potential employees, in order to ascertain whether or not they are suitable to work with vulnerable adults and children. For individuals working in childcare, a valid Enhanced DBS disclosure is a legal requirement.

The Disclosure and Barring Service also manages lists of individuals who are barred from working with children and adults. New safeguarding regulations introduced in October 2009 place an obligation on employers, social services and professional regulators to notify the DBS of relevant information. This obligation ensures that individuals who pose a threat to vulnerable groups can be barred from working with them. It also makes it a criminal offence for barred individuals to apply to work with these groups and for employers to knowingly employ them.
